THE PACKAGE

Dear Garrett,

It would be good for me to tell you what I have learned about Packages — actually what I like to call Packages.

It has been helpful to view events that come along in a person’s life as Packages.

Many packages have been handed to me in my lifetime, many of them most pleasant and some not so pleasant. Regardless of what they look like on the outside, all packages have good things the inside. It took me awhile to learn this valuable point.

I’d like to start off with this chapter on Packages with the hardest one that was ever handed to me. On 15 OCT 1970 I was handed a package in Vietnam that I did not know how to handle. It was actually 16 OCT but was recorded as the 15th if you look into the record. I know because I was there. We had departed from Long Thanh North around
